* <spoiler text="How is Mucor spread?">The spores are widespread in dust and air and can be inhaled or ingested. They are ubiquitous contaminants colonizing the normal human skin or gut without causing illness in immunocompetent people.</spoiler>
* <spoiler text="What are the common sites of infection with Mucor?">Mucor commonly causes vasculitis and thrombosis.
 
The three primary sites of Mucor invasion are the nasal sinuses, lungs, and gastrointestinal tract.</spoiler>
* <spoiler text="What special risks of Mucor infection are associated with diabetes?">In diabetics, the fungus may spread from nasal sinuses to the orbit, and subsequently the brain, giving rise to rhinocerebral mucormycosis.</spoiler>
